Ms NICE having some RICE dumplings! (cheyyyyy so BHB! 😂😂😂) Who says glutinous rice dumplings can only be enjoyed during Dumpling Festival? 😉
.
These are the 莲蓉碱水粽 that I got from @imperialtreasuresg in June. Fans of kee chang are bound to enjoy this master creation, where you get a taste of both sweet and savoury flavours in one rice dumpling! 👍
.
Beautifully translucent in its yellow hue, the glutinous rice has inherited a distinctive alkaline taste after soaking in lye water - can be an acquired taste but i think this wasnt too overwhelming so i was receptive. It had a very sticky & soft texture, slightly too soft for my liking though. I would have preferred a more firm chew, but i must say that the filling more than made up for it! 😋
.
The generous filling featured a sweet lotus paste which was definitely the star of the show. 😍😍😍 Boasted to be made from specially-selected premium lotus seeds, it is of no wonder why this lusciously smooth lotus paste exuded an alluring fragrance & tasted nothing like inferior commercially-available lotus paste (or those in steamed buns). With creamy consistency like peanut butter, it definitely complemented the otherwise monotonous glutinous rice very well! ❤

Honestly speaking, my preference has always leaned towards savoury dumplings rather than sweet ones (which explains why I would go for Bak Zhang as compared to Nyonya Zhang if I reallyyyyy had to choose one). This lotus paste rice dumpling, however, changed my impression of the sweet renditions. Pretty impressive. 👍
