A self-described ordinary girl-next-door who is so committed to discovering and enjoying food that she puts in the effort to exercise so she can pursue more of her foodie adventures. Beyond posting about the fancy media invites and dinner with friends and family, Serene also posts home-cooked food whipped up by her mother. She appreciates that good food might not necessarily be luxurious and is happy to share the simple meals she has with others, she even posts the meals she has from food courts.

She has always had an affinity for writing and found it fulfilling to combine her love of writing with her passion for food. She's grateful for the appreciation she has received for her work, even simple gestures like being tagged in a post for good food recommendations perks her up and keeps her going.

With all the eating and writing, Serene constantly reminds herself and others that taking care of one's health is still the most important part of anyone's routine. She's an advocate for exercise so that one can live on much longer to continue savouring what life has to offer.

When you started, did you create an elaborate plan or was it very casual?

It started off as a casual sharing of what I eat for my 3 meals, snacks, or my home-cooked meals at home (because my mum is a really great cook). Sometime in June last year, I was blessed with a chance to attend a media event and it evolved into something bigger since. I must say that I have been really lucky to have met many sincere and helpful food instagrammers, as well as brands/PR along the way who have showered me with abundance of opportunities and friendship.

Do you have any inspirations you look to for your content?

I started off as a writer for @qinlovesmacaronsss and she really opened my doors to the food community in Singapore. Despite having lots of followers, she takes the effort to reply to all comments on her posts, and is an extremely genuine and sincere person from my interactions with her. She is definitely someone I look up to.

What are your top 3 favourite dishes and which place served it best?

This is a tough question because I like all sorts of food!

1. Old school pastry - Sing Hon Loong

2. Min Jiang Kueh - Yean Heng Pancake

3. Fish Soup - Han Kee OR Hong Kong Street Family

If there were a dish that was your nemesis on this food journey, what would it be?

Overcooked eggs! Jumping on the bandwagon of poached eggs for the Instagram-worthy yolk-flow effect, many eateries/restaurants have introduced sous vide eggs in their dishes but not all are done well. Overcooked eggs/yolks are simply disastrous as they end up being clumpy instead of adding a luscious creamy texture to the dish.

What advice do you have for those who might want to start food blogging or Instagramming?

Find your own style and stick to it. Do your research, learn from others and keep improving!
