Sam Wu, also known as the Hungry Hongaporean, earned his moniker after living in Hong Kong for 11 years. He got his start posting on Instagram after a friend lovingly chided him for constantly posting food pictures on Facebook. She 'helped' him to download Instagram by grabbing his phone and installing the app on his behalf. Sam is forever grateful to our unnamed heroine for bringing life to the @samoosg account.

When you started, did you create an elaborate plan or was it very casual?

It was casual. It was just going to restaurants and posting pictures of food I personally enjoyed. This has been my mantra till today. I do not want to be a sellout to recommend food that tastes bad, Nor do I want to slam restaurants/cafes regarding their food. I do not want to put negativity out there in the world.

Do you have any inspirations you look to for your content?

I don’t have any, actually. I don’t follow any chefs in particular.

What are your top 3 favourite dishes and which place served it best?

1. Nasi Lemak - Holland Village Nasi Lemak

2. Laksa - Katong Laksa

3. Anything Mum cooks

What advice do you have for those who might want to start food blogging or Instagramming?

Just do it! Be consistent with your branding.

If there were a dish that was your nemesis on this food journey, what would it be?

Pig blood & liver. Hate it. Ugh.
