Kenneth Lee (@5meanders)
Kenneth is currently pursuing his Masters of Communications in Boston, taking the time whilst there to explore the various immigrant cultures and their evolution across America. He believes food goes beyond sustenance, but rather, it acts as a conduit to help transmit cultures across space and time. Kenneth believes "eating, therefore, is to understand that culture and appreciating a form of history."
He does not just appreciate the dishes he shoots, he tries to meet the people behind them to find out more about their story. To pursue his passion and keep up with his studies, Kenneth does freelance writing at night while holding a job as a communication strategist by day. He also took it upon himself to work 3 jobs as a student to make ends meet.
Kenneth began his food journey as a way to improve his writing and photography. Kenneth mentioned that he "love(s) long form writing as a medium because of its unique ability to capture and transmit nuance to the reader." Kenneth added that he "also wanted to give people a clear idea of what they were going to get when they went to a restaurant."
When you started, did you create an elaborate plan or was it very casual?
There was no plan beyond the cycle of eating, mentally recording the experience, and writing it all down. Enjoying the moment is still all that matters to me when it comes to eating.
Do you have any inspirations you look to for your content?
These 3 are on the top of my list for visual or written artistry. There's a certain commitment to their craft that I respect, and they've proven that they can remain authentic in their opinion, no matter how many followers they have --> @misstamchiak @fundamentally_flawed @justinfoodprints

If there were a dish that was your nemesis on this food journey, what would it be?
Cup Noodles from 7-11 are my enemy. It's a true waste of calories.
What advice do you have for those who might want to start food blogging or Instagramming?
Don't do it to be famous, to make money, or for free meals. Do it because you want to feed your mind with new flavour combinations, and because you want to know more about food.
Where can people find out more about you?
I love to chat with people about food and current affairs, so feel free to say "Hi!" on Instagram at @5meanders, follow my journey in Boston on my website 5meanders.com, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On being a true-blue foodie
The best meals almost always come from unexpected quarters. That corner store on the street in Hanoi or that hidden second floor bar along a quiet street is where you might end up having the meal of your lifetime. Skip the obvious, ignore how things look, and really look for the flavour.
